Sharing equally

In maths we have been learning about sharing equally.  Today we used pretend pizza bases to help us learn how to share equally into halves and in quarters.  We made pizza toppings with  play dough.  We then shared these toppings equally in halves and in quarters.  We discovered that if you can skip count it sometimes helps to work out how many toppings in each section of the pizza quicker.

Hedgehog Fun

In our literacy group we are reading and investigating about food!  How to make food, different types of food even  buying food.  Today we read a book about making a hedgehog out of food.  We used skewers and pushed marsh mellows, grapes and pineapple onto them.  We poked the skewers into half an orange.  We used raisins for eyes as we didn't have cloves.  Autumn's dad showed her what cloves look like.

"They smelt funny" Autumn said.

Thank you for sharing your hedgehogs with
Te Kakano.  They were very yummy!

Coffee machine

Mrs Parkes kindly donated her old coffee machine to our class that doesn't work anymore.  We have had fun playing with it in our made up cafe.  Mrs Johnson and Mrs Smith sure had alot of coffees today!  Before we played with it Autumn, Jared and Aayla really wanted to open it up and see how it worked.  What wonderful curiousity!

Writing Workshop

Aayla came to a workshop today to work on her writing goal. She is learning how to record the sounds she can hear in order. We looked at some pictures of three letter words. We needed to carefully sound out each of the letters and write them down. We had a lot of fun stretching out the words and listening for the sounds we could hear. Aayla was able to make the link with her phonic lessons and could identify some rhyming words. Great connections in your learning Aayla!

Author's Chair 2

Aayla has been making great choices during Write to Self time. She is able to find a quiet place to work and write for the whole time.
Keep being a great author, Aayla
